About

I first found my love for print in my final major project at college, where we had free rein to follow our preferred direction. I followed the path of designing printed wallpaper. I was the only one to do this. Despite studying fashion, I followed another direction. I knew I had to do something I was really enthusiastic about, surface and print design. Although this was risky it paid off, achieving a distinction for my final submission. This experience, built me the foundations for the skills I later would need,as I progressed onto studying my degree.

After my three years studying BA (Hons) Textiles & Surface Design at The Northern School Of Art, after gaining a Second Class Honours Upper Division, I found my passion as a digital print/surface designer aimed at the area of gift and stationery, along with homeware, which one day I hoped to have my own business in where I am based in Essex. So, I have done exactly that and started an online ecommerce drop shipping store, where I can place my designs onto products to sell on demand, to help bring a smile to people’s faces. As well as later opening an Etsy shop 'AmeliaPaveleyDesigns' to use alongside my website.

My work usually has a deeper hidden underlying narrative and is inspired by animals, flowers, amongst many other things and the symbolism behind these. My strengths lie in my ability to produce creative and expressive artwork in a commercial way for gift, stationery and homeware and bring in an effective use of digital design which then follows through into my digital work. To produce my artwork, I use a wide range of media from pencils, to promarker’s, collage/mixed media amongst many other forms, which I later refine digitally using various digital software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, FlamePainter4 and Rebelle.

Studying Textiles and Surface Design at University has made me a better designer, as I have learnt the importance of getting the colour palette and composition right, for a design to work effectively. I have also seen the benefits of collaborating and working with industry to create professional outcomes alongside participating in live briefs/experiences, such as partaking in producing and exhibiting work at The Bowes Museum. I also have had the opportunity whilst studying at University, to have physically exhibited framed work in ‘The Drawing Symposium’, and actually selling one of my framed artwork pieces.

On top of this, I was privileged enough to have gained a space digitally in light of the Coronavirus, amongst the other amazingly talented people in my class showcasing a snapshot of my Final Major Project work on the NewDesigners website. (Stand T33) Following on from this, I participated in the ND Awards, submitting, and being shortlisted for the ‘Wilko Retail Design Award: Surface Pattern & Textiles’.

My design style is not specifically one aesthetic, although I would like to think its recognisable to me. My drawing style varies depending on the brief and target audience where I adapt accordingly, however usually consists of figurative, graphic, and colourful elements where I have taken inspiration from the world around me, especially animals and nature. This is where my work sometimes has delicate elements also.

So that’s me and a bit about the journey I have taken to get to where I am now, thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope my designs bring a smile to your faces!
